The game of poker is played by a group of players around a table. The table may be circular or oval. Each player receives a single card, with the highest card being the initial dealer. The dealer shuffles the deck and cuts a card in turn. The next player clockwise in the process advances to the next step in the game.
If two players have the same hand value, the odd chips go to the player with the higher hand. If the players tie, the pot is split as evenly as possible. If the two players have identical hands, the odd chip goes to the player who has the highest card by suit. This applies to all cards. Occasionally, a player with the highest hand wins the entire pot.
A hand of Poker can have a value of two to five. Usually, players will bet with a deck of cards. In addition, they will use chips to place bets. There are five different kinds of chips, a white chip is the lowest value, while a red chip is worth ten. In some variations, players use both colors.
In one version of the game, players use two hole cards and three board cards. The top-ranked hand is a high card, while the lowest-ranked hand is called a low-card. The high card occurs when five cards are not consecutive or the same suit. Higher-ranking hands win, and ties occur when the two lowest-ranking hands have the same card values. In a tie, the prize is split equally. This system is used in most versions of poker.
