Casino – An Introduction to the World of Casinos

Casino

Casino is one of Martin Scorsese’s best movies and certainly the most compelling mob drama. The movie lays bare the intricate web of corruption centered in Las Vegas and shows how big gambling corporations took over a desert city that once was ruled by the mafia. This three-hour movie never lags and is captivating till the very end. The film is filled with mesmerizing performances from Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone, who give life to their respective characters with tremendous finesse. Joe Pesci’s portrayal of the vicious Nicky is one of his finest moments on screen, he manages to create an image that is both menacing and charismatic.

Casinos make most of their money from gambling games such as slot machines, blackjack, roulette, baccarat and craps. They also offer musical shows, lighted fountains, shopping centers and lavish hotels. They attract high rollers who gamble large sums of money and receive comps (free food, drinks and rooms) that are worth thousands of dollars. These high rollers make up a small fraction of total revenue, but they are essential to the profitability of a casino.

Casinos are designed around noise, light and excitement to keep people occupied and to draw them back for more gambling. The loud noise and dazzling lights can lead to a sense of euphoria and cause players to forget about the fact that their chances of winning are slim to none. In addition, casinos often use red paint on the walls and other decorations to stimulate the senses.
